We here at Capitol Heights church of Christ follow the examples of the first century church as written in the New Testament. We do not use mechanical instruments in our worship services, instead we "sing and make melody in our hearts to the Lord." (Eph. 5:19) To learn more on this subject read Music in Worship (opens in a new window or tab).
Each Sunday we partake of the Lord's supper (Acts 20:7), which Christ established on the evening of His betrayal. The breaking of bread which represents His body and the fruit of the vine (grape juice) which represents His blood shed for us.
We're also commanded to "lay by in store" on the first day of the week (Sunday). This is a money gift to God that is used to help grow the church and do good works. We are to give "as we have prospered" (1 Cor. 16:2). Tithing or the giving of 10% was what the Jews did under the Old Law. This 10% however, was not all that they gave to God; it was in addition to their normal giving.
Under the New Law or the New Covenant that God established with the New Israel - the spiritual Israel (Christians) we are commanded to give as we have prospered. There is no required amount but God does expect us to be generous with our giving.
The people who worship here range in age from college age to retirement age. We would be pleased to have you join us at any of our Bible Studies and Worship Services. Whether you are visiting in our area or searching for a church home, we'd like for you to know that there's a special place for you here. Come help us grow this congregation of the Lord's church!
